The Grant County Sheriff’s office suggested it has higher priorities than enforcing Gov. Jay Inslee’s recent order concerning face masks, Everbridge Nixle reported.

“The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has much larger public safety priorities than writing a ticket for a person not wearing a mask,” Sheriff Tom Jones told Everbridge Nixle.

He also pointed out the local jail already has limits in place to lessen the spread of COVID-19.

“I have full trust in the residents and business owners of our great county that they will continue to use common sense and good judgment to be safe. Their efforts will support Grant County moving to Phase 3 of the reopening plan,” Jones told Everbridge Nixle.

The governor’s order doesn’t require police to arrest or even issue a ticket those who infringe on the regulation and Jones’stance is to act in the best interest of the community.
