Big Bend Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.
Join the Big Bend Community College Foundation in raising student scholarship funds during the annual Cellarbration! for Education auction event online Sept. 16 through 19. This is the foundation’s 19th Cellarbration! for Education event, but the first ever to be held virtually.
Cellarbration! is the foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year. Last year, attendees helped bring in more than $135,000 for scholarships and emergency funding for Big Bend students.
This year, the foundation awarded 203 scholarships to students totaling $250,000. Foundation staff have also facilitated $23,000 in emergency fund scholarships, which helps students experiencing unforeseen, emergent financial situations remain in school.
While Cellarbration! has historically been an in-person event, this year’s new virtual format allows for more ways, and for more people, to participate.
“We are excited about our virtual Cellarbration! for Education,” said BBCC Foundation Executive Director LeAnne Parton. “We need to help even more students now with the impact of COVID. Contributions – whether winning an auction package, donating a flat cash amount, or both – all make a difference to students working toward their educational achievements.”
Cellarbration! for Education kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 16, with the opening of the event’s general silent auction and dessert silent auction. Both feature a variety of items, including sweet treats, fashion, home décor, food and products from local businesses.
Bidding closes on the dessert silent auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. General silent auction bidding closes at 7 p.m. the following day, Saturday Sept. 19.
The event’s live auction portion officially opens for bids at 6 p.m. Sept. 19, one hour prior to the live stream at 7 p.m. Auction items include vacation getaways, spa packages, gift certificates for local restaurants, furniture and more.
During the live stream, participants will also have the opportunity to participate in the Emergency Fund-A-Need Paddle Raise, which specifically funds emergency scholarships.
