Grant funding to small businesses in the state of Washington will help them deal with the losses incurred from the COVID-19 pandemic, a report in NBC Right Now KNDU 25 said.
"It's for small businesses that have been negatively affected financially by COVID-19," Martin Valadez of the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce said.
The money provided by the Washington Dept. of Commerce called a “Small Business Resiliency Grant” amounts to $5 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding. Amounts up to $10,000 can be granted to small business operations.
To qualify a business must have been opened by Mar. 1, 2019 and have 20 employees or fewer.
"It is for business expenses, to cover business expenses, business losses and not for personal expenses ," Valadez explained.
Valadez added that business owners may not apply for the same expense or loss for which they received prior aid. He added that a goal is to make the program known to small business owners including those who are minority entrepreneurs and those who have not received aid in the past.
