Washington families and businesses negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic could be eligible for financial help.
Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) recently announced the state would be more than doubling their initial $50 million in support for businesses, bringing the new total to $135 million. It includes $70 million in business support grants, $30 million for the recovery loan program, $20 million for rental assistance, and $15 million to help low-income households with their energy bills.
"We know that this will not fully solve the burden so many business owners are shouldering," Lisa Brown, Director for the Department of Commerce, said in a release posted on the governor's website, "but it will help get some of them get through.a difficult period."
Brown said they'd keep working with lawmakers at both the state and federal level to help acquire additional financial support.
Grants will be given to businesses that have seen the biggest impact by both the pandemic and measures taken to address the safety of the public. The governor's office said separate programs to support businesses will also come from local governments.
